Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ)

Software : 3dmaya, Substance Painter(PBR), UE4

I

wanted the scene to look like a Ghibli style. SO for practicing Unreal Engine Environment art, PBR texture and baking. I made a Laputian Rovbot and set the environment similar to the animation.

First, I made a base robot as low poly as possible and baked the joints and rusty parts. However, still I could make the robot as low-poly, so maybe I did not need to make high poly and bake them. 😂 I did not need to make a high poly for this robot. well.. it was good practice anyway. 😄 but if I use it for a mobile game, it might be working?

I did texture in Substance 3d Painter. I focused to use PBR rust texture because the robot was standing for a decade on the heal in the animation. so it must be really rusty and dirty. but why I felt the texture looks thicker and thicker while I was working on the rust. hmmmm.

Move to meshes and materials to Unreal Engine4. I use Post Process Volume for shine and blur effect for the scene. Also, I used Sky Atmosphere for realistic sunlight and used Atmosphere Fog to change the colors of the sky for giving looks like a more ghibli animation style.

I use LandScape mode to build the land, use a Sculpting tool to adjust the height of the land. I download free materials from Unreal Markets and use them with a brush for the flowers and grass on the ground.
